Sister Cities group meets to reorganize, elect new officers
Realtor Joanne Guthrie and Dixon Main Street Project Manager Margie Hughes were named to head the housing committee of the Sister Cities Association of Dixon Tuesday afternoon. The group met to reorganize and begin planning for a visit of 100 residents of Herzberg, Germany next year.
Charles Nusbaum, rural Dixon, was elected president of the reorganized group. Nusbaum is a retired farmer who was active with the visit of 11 residents of Herzberg last July. He replaces Carol Jones who did not seek reelection.
Ira G. Kelly was elected vice chairman, Karin Floto, secretary and Carol Jones was selected as treasurer.
Margie Hughes, Joanne Guthrie, and Jones, all of Dixon, and Jim DeGeorge of Amboy, were elected to one-year terms on the board of directors.
Named to two-year terms were Virginia Sheets, Tom VanderHeiden and Kelly. Elected to three-year terms were Beverly Shepherd, Linda Kim, Nusbaum and Floto.
The next meeting will be Oct. 20 at 4:30 p.m. at city hall.
The large German delegation will visit Dixon to witness the signing of an official document, proclaiming that a Sister City relationship exists between Dixon and Herzberg. The delegation will be led by Burgermeister Michael Oecknigk. The Burgermeister will be accompanied by his wife and two children.
The group will also bring a local band comprised of some 30 members, which will perform during the visit.
Membership, public relations, fund raising and cultural exchange committees were also named.
