Distinguished Service Award to the Associate Member

It is a privilege for me to submit a nomination for the IASCOE Associate Member Award in the name of Dennis Kuhlengel.

Dennis has been an active farmer for many years in Washington County, elected to the FSA County Committee, and involved with IAFEC & NAFEC. Dennis is married to Jean, and they have three married daughters along with three grandchildren. Dennis is a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Okawville, IL and has held numerous positions on the church boards.

Dennis has been involved with the Washington County ASCS/FSA since 1977 thru present serving as a Community Committee Member or County Committee Member. Dennis was elected to the Washington County FSA County Committee in 1996 and has served as Member, Vice-Chairman, and Chairman. He has been very knowledgeable of the producers and their farming practices in Washington County; therefore, Dennis contributes immensely to the county committee. Rumor has it that Dennis just won’t break down and buy a cell phone so the Washington County Office knows his answering system. You just have to check early in the morning at the coffee shop, and he will be there.

Dennis is also a lifetime member of both the Illinois Association of Farmer Elected Committees (IAFEC) and the National Association of Farm Elected Committees (NAFEC). He became a director for the IAFEC board in 1999, elected as the Vice President for IAFEC in 2000, and then was elected as the President for IAFEC in 2002. He is still the current IAFEC President. He was also elected as the Vice President to NAFEC in 2005 for the 2006 and 2007 year. He will become the NAFEC President this August at the NAFEC annual meeting in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Dennis has attended numerous legislative conferences along with attending the Farm Bill Forum in 2005 at Decatur, IL when asked to speak on behalf of the FSA employees and COC members. He has always worked side by side with IASCOE and NASCOE for the betterment of the FSA employees, FSA COC members, and the American Farmer. Dennis is a true and dedicated friend of IASCOE & NASCOE; therefore, I proudly nominate Dennis Kuhlengel for the 2007 IASCOE Associate Member Award.
