Distinguished Service To Agriculture Award |
|
For all of the about to be mentioned activities, I nominate Jane A. Graves for the IASCOE Distinguished Service Award for Service to FSA/Agriculture.
Jane has been employed for the past 20+ years in the Richland County office. She started as a Data Entry person in 1986. 1991 brought Jane the Administrator’s Award for Service to Agriculture. 1992 brought Exceptional Service to ASCS for her “Up with Measurement Service” promotion. 1993 brought the Exceptional Service to ASCS for “FTS2000 Electronic Mail” activities.
Jane formed the South Eastern Illinois Chapter of Farm Safety 4 Just Kids in the fall of 1997. In 2006 a Cash Award was given to Jane for all her work with Farm Safety 4 Just Kids. Mrs. Graves has organized and conducted 10 consecutive Progressive Farmer Safety Day camps in Olney, Illinois, with between 300-400 children attending every year. Jane has assembled 150 volunteers that contribute approximately 1200 hours in order to make this camp a huge success.
She has also assisted the Wabash Count Safety Day camp for the past several years. Jane designed and had constructed a portable chemical look-a-like cabinet to teach children about dangerous chemicals found in the house and on the farm. As of today, this is the only cabinet of its kind in the State of Illinois and travels from event to event in order to demonstrate the safety hazards to children. Jane has reached several thousands of children around the State with this cabinet alone.
Jane attended and participated in the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) signing partnership between FSA and FS4JK in Iowa. At this event Jane demonstrated the “Wheel of Misfortune” to all participants. This shows the variety of injuries as well as results from those injuries that occur on and around the farm. Jane has conducted several local demonstrations with the schools and other organizations held in Olney and the surrounding area. Jane volunteers her time every year to travel to Springfield to the State Fair and work at the FS4JK booth that represents all the chapters in Illinois.
If I had to guess, I would say that in 10 years with Jane’s day camps and other events, she easily has reached over 100,000 children.
Respectfully submitted,
Tom Zuber |
