IAW
sponsors science fair project awards-- Each year, IAW sponsors (in
conjunction with the Illinois Corn Marketing Board and the Illinois Soybean
Check-off Funds) the Illinois Jr. Academy of Science Awards in the new uses of
corn and soybeans or their by-products category. IAW members Cheryl D., Cerro
Gordo, and Pat Y., Winslow, assisted in judging 12 projects in 2007. In
the New Uses for Corn or Its By-Products, Elizabeth Spector, Carbondale
Community High School won 2nd prize of $300 for her project titled "Insulating
with Corn Pith." Third prize of $100 went to McKennon Biers of Holy Cross
School, Mendota, IL with a project titled "Is Corn the Major Fuel Service of the
Future." The Illinois Corn Marketing Board supplied the monetary prizes for the
Corn Project Categories. Julie Prombo, Walter R. Sundling Jr. High School,
Palatine, IL won 1st prize in the New Used of Soybeans and Its By-Products. The
project was titled" Corn, Soybean, Pea's & more: Which is the Best Deicer?"
Second Prize and $300 in the soybean category went to Zanies Huddain, Niles
North High School, Skokie, IL. Zainab's project was titled "Recyclable Wasters:
Useful for Corn & Soybean Growth." The monetary prizes for the soybean category
were supplied by the Illinois Soybean Check-Off Funds.
