One of the finest schoolhouses in Illinois at the time. Joel Wilcox, contractor, built the old Second Ward School in 1867; it was later known and referred to as Central School. The building, located in what is today Propheter Park, was torn down in 1922 to make room for the new Central School. Photo courtesy of Nan Hunter.
