Sterling's first automobile was owned and built by Myron Detrich in the spring of 1900. Detrich had read a description of a horseless carriage in a newspaper and determined to make one himself. Passengers were Mr. Detrich's father, Martin Detrich, Washington M. Dillon, and R. K. Swift. The engine in on display at SRFHS Museum.
