The 1906 ice gorge dammed up the Rock River for miles and in the process successfully took out the new Avenue G bridge, built in 1904, completely on the Sterling side of the river and left the part reaching Rock Falls looking like a pretzel.  Here people are gathered to view the awesome power of the ice flow. Photo submitted by E. M. Finch of Sterling.
