Thomas Purcell, the little boy seated in front with violin, died at the age of 73 on January 14, 1960 in Detroit. He was "a world famed ukulele player who played his first professional appearance at the Worlds Fair in 1893 at the age of six... became a violinist of note at the age of nine."
